Course Overview
This 2-part training programme will prepare you to carry out a Rapid Rainforest Assessment as a first step in assessing the current condition of your site for rainforest lichens and bryophytes. In preparation for session 2 you will be asked to carry out a Rapid Rainforest Assessment of a/your site.
In part two you will analyse the Rapid Rainforest Assessment results, identify management issues for your rainforest site and begin to plan and prioritise appropriate management interventions.
This course can be delivered wholly online, or in person.
The course will cover:
- What temperate rainforest is, why it is an important UK habitat for lichens and bryophytes, and the threats it faces
- How to assess woodland condition using the Rapid Woodland Assessment
- Interpreting Rapid Rainforest Assessment results
- Planning and prioritising management and dealing with percieved conflicts of interest.
Learning outcomes:
Through this training you will:
- Understand what temperate rainforest is, why it is an important UK habitat and the threats it faces.
- Know how to carry out a Rapid Rainforest Assessment
- Be able to identify priority lichen communities and habitats for lichens and bryophytes
- Be able to identify and prioritise management issues in your woodland
This course is suitable for:
Landowners, land managers, trainees, and volunteers who are involved with temperate rainforest management.
Delivery options
Flexible e.g. either:
- 2 x 0.5 day online sessions with an appropriate gap in order to carry out a RRA or
- 2 consecutive full days with 50% classroom and 50% field sessions
