Introduction to Wildflower Identification – Grassland Training

Course Overview

This course can be tailored to the needs of participants and the conservation activity taking place. It can be added on to any of the meadow or amenity grassland management courses and can be delivered online, in person or in a hybrid way.

The course will cover:

  • Introductory wildflower ID skills, looking at parts of a plant and the terminology commonly used in ID guides.
  • Using wildflower keys
  • Positive and negative indicator species in grassland sites- what are they, what do they tell us about the site, how can we identify them?
  • Monitoring grassland sites

Learning outcomes:

Participants will learn basic wildflower identification skills and develop competence in identifying a range of meadow indicator species.

This course is suitable for:

Anyone with an interest in developing skills in grassland wildflower identification for management or monitoring. This can include site managers, volunteers and trainees.
