Course Overview
Temperate rainforest is an internationally important habitat for mosses and liverworts. This course will introduce you to a wide range of moss and liverwort species as well as enabling you to develop the skills you need to use identification guides and start to identify species at your rainforest sites. Depending on the needs and experience of participants, this course can be delivered over 1 or 2 days, in person and online.
The course will cover:
- What mosses and liverworts are and why they are important
- Moss and liverwort life cycles
- Key features for identification
- Identification of some common rainforest species
Learning outcomes:
Through this training you will:
- Understand the importance of mosses adn liverworts in temperate rainforest
- Know what mosses and liverworts are and be able to describe and identify their key identification features
- Confidently be able to identify a number of common species using simple identification guides
- Be able to recognise some rainforest indicator species and niches

Landowners, professionals, trainees, and volunteers who work in temperate rainforest in roles involving woodland management, public engagement, and education.
